Red Worms

Vermicomposting is defined as follows:

Vermi = “worm,”
Compost = “a mixture of various decaying organic substances, as dead leaves or manure, used for fertilizing soil,”
ing = a suffix which identifies the action of the noun of the word.

In a nutshell (which is compostable)… Worm Composting!

Vermicomposting works well with several types of compost.  Yard waste, paper products and food scraps are great candidates for vermicomposting.

Vermicomposting works well in both closed container composting and in open air or “arid” composting.

Lots of places will sell worms that can be used to fortify areas which are to be composted.  Generally, we will purchase a few combo bags for lawns and gardens.  The bag will generally contain a few species of beneficial worms such as night crawlers, red worms and wigglers.

*** Tip: The worms, if spread out and about the general yard area will help with any excess thatching from the previous years mowing and maintenance.
